African American Illustrators

African American artists have made significant contributions in children's book illustration.  The work of these talented illustrators is often recognized by the Coretta Scott King Award.  However, the importance and impact of these illustrators cannot be captured by the King Award alone.

This guide provides information about some of the most significant African American illustrators and direct links to some of their books in the San Antonio Public Library catalog.  While this listing has been created as part of SAPL's Black History Month observance, these books and this art deserves our attention year round.
