This books stands out quite a bit amongst a majority of American children novels for several reasons. One is the amazing writing of Okorafor that is rich with imagery. The second being that this book doesn’t take place in America; it takes place in Nigeria. The third reason is the protagonist of this story is a young American born Nigerian girl who is albino. This book is a great read for kids, along with other age groups as well. Not only was it entertaining, it was also an eye-opener to how African Americans are seen and treated by native born Africans, and it was also a great way to learn about Nigerian culture. I highly recommend this book to kids and adults alike.
