In his own words - Greehey, Bill

Bill Greehey was born and raised in Iowa and first came to San Antonio after enlisting in the United States Air Force.  He founded the Valero Energy Corporation in 1980 and served as its CEO and Chairman until 2006 and 2007, respectively.  He also founded NuStar Energy L.P. in 2001, which has consistently appeared on Fortune magazine's “100 Best Companies to Work For” list.

Greehey formed the Greehey Family Foundation in 2003 to focus on human welfare issues, children's problems, education, and helping the homeless. His support extends to local organizations such as St. Mary's University, Haven for Hope, and the University of Texas Health Science Center.
