District 9 Councilman Joe Krier and San Antonio Public Library to Host Community Update Meeting on Planned District 9 Library

 

WHAT: Community update meeting for planned District 9 library 

WHEN: Monday, March 24, 2014

               6:30pm

 WHERE: East Evans Road Branch Library (formerly the Adobe Café) - 2515 East Evans Rd, 78259

 District 9 Councilman Joe Krier and the San Antonio Public Library will host a community update meeting about the new library that is planned for District 9. The meeting will take place on Monday, March 24 at East Evans Road Branch Library (formerly the Adobe Café), 2515 East Evans Rd, 78259, 6:30pm – 8:00pm.

District 9 residents will have an opportunity to view renderings of the planned Library, and learn more about the service model they can expect from their new Library.

Community members who are unable to attend may send questions and comments to SanAntonioPublicLibrary@sanantonio.gov with the subject line “District 9 Branch Library.”

Project overview: Through adaptive reuse of an existing building, the library is creating a branch that provides community responsive services; a robust collection of books and materials; and integrated technology. The branch is slated to open in September 2015.

Location: 2515 East Evans Road | San Antonio Council District 9

Property size: 5.5 acres

Existing building: 8,000 sq. ft. to be expanded to approximately 9,800 sq. ft.

Architect: Alvidrez Architects Inc.

Funding: 2012–17 Bond; $7.1 million ($100,000 for public art included)

Bond language: Development of a Branch Library in Council District 9. This project will require the purchase of land. Funding includes the acquisition of land.

Project milestones:

September 6- Owner Project Requirement meeting

October 12- First community meeting held at Encino Park Elementary School

October 23- Library Board of Trustees input meeting

October 30- Staff input meeting

November 20- Second community input meeting

March 24- Community briefing meeting
