Texana Resource Center

Bond improvements will reconfigure and transform Central Library's Texana/Genealogy Department into the new 21,000 square-foot Texana Resource Center. This $2 million facility project is funded through the 2017 and 2022 San Antonio Bond Programs, along with additional private charitable funding raised by the San Antonio Public Library Foundation. Featured amenities will include addition of a new Flexible Classroom, Listening Station, and a Gallery & Exhibit Space. Improvements to the Texana vault will ensure enhanced protection and preservation of rare, significant and valuable historical materials and archives in a climate-controlled environment. Project improvements will also enhance the center's Family History Area by including small study areas and aesthetic finishes, while functional renovations to group consultation and individual research spaces will improve customer service and experience for visiting patrons and researchers. Additionally, aesthetic and navigational improvements to collection shelving, service points and wayfinding will provide easier navigation and convenient collection access for all.
