General Q&A

Q. What supplies do I need to start crocheting?

A. To get started crocheting you will need yarn, a crochet hook, scissors and an embroidery needle.

Q. Where can I buy the supplies I need?

A. You can buy these items at craft stores like Hobby Lobby, Michael's or even Walmart.

Q. What type of yarn do I buy?

A. For beginners I would recommend acrylic yarn to start. It is easy to work with, but it really just depends on what the pattern calls for and personal preference. Wool and cotton are other types of yarn you can use for crocheting.

Q. What does the weight of the yarn mean?

A. The weight of the yarn you pick means the thickness of the yarn. Yarn can range from super fine to super bulky. For beginners I would suggest starting off with a 4 weighted yarn, this is a nice medium thickness to work with.

Q. What type of hook do I use?

A. You will need a crochet hook to start. These will come in varying sizes depending on what the pattern calls for and personal preference. I would suggest a 5.00 mm hook also know as a size H/8 hook or a 5.50 mm hook also known as a size I/9 hook. These sizes are right in the middle and are good to practice with for beginners.
