Resources for Early Childhood Professionals

Do you need training hours? Ideas for your classroom? A way to connect with other teachers? If you work with children ages five and younger, this resource guide is for you.

Resources for Early Childhood Professionals

The San Antonio Public Library’s early literacy program is designed to support the development of young children’s love of books, reading and learning.  SAPL staff provide foundational literacy information and materials to parents, extended family, and caregivers of children ages birth-five years. Services are provided free of charge at public libraries, childcare facilities, schools and community-based organizations.  The mission is to empower the San Antonio community with an increased awareness of, and the tools to support, early literacy skills.

In this guide you will find information about workshops for Early Childhood Professionals. You will also find links for trainings offered by other entities and resources for your classroom. Do you have a question or an idea to share? Send us an email and we'll see what we can do!

Community Outreach

Staff work directly with families at childcare centers, parks and community hubs throughout Bexar County.  Services can be customized to fit the needs of the families at your center.

  • Workshops - SAPL staff visit a center to present information about early literacy along with a take-and-make tool for families with children ages five and under.  These workshops are designed for families, for teacher workshops please click here for the events calendar.
  • Reading Tents - tents are set up inside or outside the center at pick up time.  Families are invited to borrow a book and small item to read together inside the tent.

To speak with SAPL staff about scheduling workshops or reading tents at your center, please email lrwsapl@sanantonio.gov or call 210-207-2597.
