The San Antonio Public Library’s early literacy program is designed to support the development of young children’s love of books, reading and learning. SAPL staff provide foundational literacy information and materials to parents, extended family, and caregivers of children ages birth-five years. Services are provided free of charge at public libraries, childcare facilities, schools and community-based organizations. The mission is to empower the San Antonio community with an increased awareness of, and the tools to support, early literacy skills.
In this guide you will find information about workshops for Early Childhood Professionals. You will also find links for trainings offered by other entities and resources for your classroom. Do you have a question or an idea to share? Send us an email and we'll see what we can do!
The San Antonio Public Library's Little Read Wagon early literacy training (for those who work with children five and younger) is fun, FREE, and always about early literacy! During the 2022-2023 school year early childhood professionals can choose from an in-person English workshop: Building Resilience Through Play and an online workshop in Spanish: Alfabetizacíon Temprana, Relaciones y Recursos para la Resiliancia. Click on the workshop titles to visit the events calendar for more information and to register.
Staff work directly with families at childcare centers, parks and community hubs throughout Bexar County. Services can be customized to fit the needs of the families at your center.
