Welcome to...

the Wild West

The Wild West is here defined as the land in the United States west of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers between the end of the Civil War in 1865 and the end of World War I. Prior to 1865 this vast area might be better described as frontier; and by the end of World War I, it was tamed and part of the nation from coast to coast.

This guide will include topics and sources for anyone wishing to research this Wild West. All materials are available in the Texana/Genealogy department of the San Antonio Public Library.
