Need a library card?

To use digital resources, you'll need a SAPL library card.  Don't have one yet? No problem!
Sign up for a free San Antonio Public Library card in person at any one of 30 library locations or digitally using a mobile phone number. When you sign up at a library location, you get a physical card that allows you access to our full collection, including physical items. Wi-Fi

Use our free Wi-Fi! We have public computers and printers, and you can borrow a laptop at some branches to use while you’re there. Just bring a USB drive so you can save your files.

Research Resources

Good research means using reliable published sources – beyond Google! We have a wealth of databases for you to find solid, cite-able sources for almost any subject. Try Explora for Elementary School, Primary Search, Explora for High School, Academic Search Complete or MasterFILE Premier, to name a few – explore them at our databases page.

Learning Express

SAT and GED prep books online, 24/7. Work through the practice tests for math, reading, and social studies, or download eBooks on writing and grammar. You’ll also find writing courses and practice tests – visit our learning express databases.

After School Activities

We have weekly teen-only (13-18) activities at all of our branches, and some of our branches also have activities just for 9- to 12-year-olds. Stop by after school and make new friends while you learn crafts, watch movies, experiment with new technologies or do other cool stuff. Some branches also offer after-school snacks so you can fuel up before you start on your homework!

eBooks & eReading Rooms

Need to read a book for an assignment and can’t find it? Try looking for an eBook version!  Also, we offer eReading rooms that provide a great virtual environment for children and teens to browse within the SAPL digital library. Each is customized to display content only for the particular browsing audience, cataloged by reading level. Visit our digital library.

Teen Library at Central

The Teen Library is awesome with all kinds of FREE things to do—such as 3D printing your favorite animal, exploring virtual reality, painting your next masterpiece, using Wi-Fi and computers, and weekly after-school activities and snacks. You can even chill out in the quiet room or jam out in the recording studio! The young adult book collection keeps growing with titles that include fiction, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) subjects, manga, and graphic novels. The Teen Library at Central is located on the 3rd floor of Central Library at 600 Soledad St.

Volunteer Hours

Do you need service hours for school credit or just want to help your local community? Apply to become a teen volunteer at the library! Teen volunteers can earn hours in-person or virtually, and they assist with a variety of tasks such as leading library activities for teens, taking photos, making digital content, creating flyers and displays, writing book reviews, and more. Teen volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Visit teen volunteers page for more information.

eAudiobooks, DVDs & More!

If you can’t get hold of the book or the eBook, you can still check to see if we have an audiobook or a movie version. And if you just want to check out DVDs of your favorite TV shows, you can do that too. Check our streaming audiobooks and videos at mysapl.org/digital. Does music help you study and keep going?

Ask a Librarian

Librarians are information ninjas. They can help you find those elusive books on obscure historical events or find the answer to complicated reference questions. Talk to them in person (we also have teens’ and children’s librarians) or call them at 210.207.2500 or 210.207.2678. You can also click the Ask icon at mysapl.org or text us at 210.591.7445.
