Q: What is a Repair Fair?
A: A repair fair is an event where people bring items to the library to be repaired at no cost.
Q: Why would a library be interested in hosting a Repair Fair?
A: Many people are currently focused on a recycling, upcycling, repair or on a buy nothing year. The buy nothing movement is currently trending as No Buy 2025. People may be interested in repairing items rather than adding items to a landfill or will want to repair items as an alternative to purchasing something new. This can also help support families who are experiencing economic hardships, or patrons who are living on a fixed budget.
Q: What items can be repaired?
A: This will depend on the type of technicians that will be available to support this program. Items should be clean, washed, and not leaking or contain a strong odor. Items should be small enough for patrons to carry into the library for the fair. Based on the current list of technicians available, here is a list of items that can currently be repaired:
We are currently searching for technicians or tinkerers who can repair the following items: jewelry, tech items like cell phones, small appliance repair, bicycle repair, electrical repair, and other repairable items such as lamps and other household items.
Q: Can I get a guarantee that my item can be repaired?
A: We cannot guarantee that any item can be repaired. Some items may need additional parts, some may be beyond repair. All items brought in to the fair must be removed after the event. Any items left behind may be recycled or disposed of.
Q: Is there anything else that I need to bring to the fair with my item?
A: If you have any spare parts or know the part that needs to be replaced please bring these items with you. For example, if you need a zipper replacement, please bring a replacement zipper with you. If you have an owner's manual for the item, that could be helpful as well.
