Friends of the Library

The Friends of the San Antonio Public Library, inaugurated March 23, 1964, exist to promote public use of the San Antonio Public Library and appreciation of its value as a cultural and educational asset to the community and encourage the extension and improvement of its services.

Membership

Board meetings, open to all, are held in January, March, May, July, September, and November. January meeting date varies, all others are usually held on the third Sunday of the month. Meeting locations rotate among the branches and the Central Library. Meetings begin: 2:00 p.m.

  • Annual dues of $15 are payable on or before January 31 of each year, and $5 of that amount may be designated to an authorized branch or support group.
  • Members may join more than one support group by paying an additional $5 for each additional group.
  • Membership forms and envelopes are available at the Central Library and all branches.

Donations of books for the Fall book sale in September are encouraged. Help with the set up is always welcome.

Membership

Be sure to send in your Friends of the SA Library membership envelope.

  • Please be sure to fill out your Membership envelope completely.
  • Please remember to designate a branch, as this will keep you on that branch list and they will get $5 for you.
    • Do you want to join more than one branch? Easy—send an extra $5 for each additional branch, per person.

Renewals

  • Did you move and forget to let us know?
  • Did you change your email address?
  • Do you have time to volunteer for specific committees?
  • Are you a Life member? We still need to have updated information, and you must choose your branch each year.

What's In It For You?

  • A feeling of satisfaction that you are supporting an important community service for all ages and cultures
  • News you can use: information in SAPLings that will tip you off to book sales, library news, volunteer opportunities, branch openings, etc.
  • Opportunities to become involved as a cultural maven (Arts & Letters Awards), a political advocate (speak to City Council!), a bargain shopper (BookCellar), or to speak your opinion (Strategic Plan focus group participation)
  • Fun! — you’ll be amazed by the diversity of backgrounds, life experiences, and creativity that Friends bring to raising money — or sharing work!

We are so grateful for our wonderful Friends. Each of you has your unique offering to your library, your town, and your community. Thank you!
