Limited Library Services

To limit the spread of COVID-19, all library locations are closed to public access and services are limited. Contact-Free Pickup for holds is available at all locations and public computer use is available by appointment at nine locations. Please see schedules and information below.

How it works

To place items on hold, search the catalog or call 210.207.2500.

We are operating with limited staff to follow social distancing guidelines. We will fill your holds as quickly as possible, but wait times may be longer than usual. Thank you for your patience.

Holds that were available before the closure are still available even though they might not be showing up in your account. If you have questions please call your local library.

Please follow social distancing guidelines while waiting for your checkout to be processed. Stay at least six feet away from other people, and avoid gathering in groups.

Forest Hills will be undergoing renovations beginning September 29, 2020 and continuing through January 2021. During that time, Contact-Free Pickup and outdoor Wi-Fi will be available during these hours:

Contact-Free Pickup

All SAPL branches and the Central Library are offering contact-free pickup except for the Kampmann Library Portal at the Briscoe Museum. The Potranco Holds Locker is not an option for use at this time.

First step: Place items on hold. Materials can be placed on hold online using a library account at mysapl.org or by calling your local library branch.

Second step: Wait for a notification. A notification will be sent by email or phone when items are ready for pick-up. You can also call your local branch for a confirmation by phone that your items are ready for pick-up.

Third step: Pick up your holds. Visit your library location to pick-up your items on hold. Upon arrival, call your library and provide your library card number. Library staff will check out your items and then bring them outside and place them on a table next to the entrance.

We have a variety of ways to contact library staff including by phone (local branch number or Central at 210-207-2500), chat at ask.mysapl.org or text 210-591-7445. If there is something else we can do to help, please let us know. 

 

Computer Use

Public computers are available for one-hour appointments at nine SAPL locations:

Bazan, Carver, Collins Garden, Cortez, Johnston, Mission, Pan American, Schaefer, Westfall
Tuesday 3PM - 7PM
Wednesday - Saturday 1PM - 5PM

To set up an appointment, give us a call 24 hours before you would like to use a computer. Staff can help you to make an appointment for a one hour computer session. Sessions are limited to one per day per person.

Appointments are limited to two people using one computer at a time. This is to ensure social distancing can be maintained. Areas of the library other than the computer stations cannot be accessed and collections are not available for browsing.

A library card is not required to use a computer, but we are asking our customers to follow a few guidelines:

  • A mask is required to be worn by everyone over the age of 10.
  • A health screening, including questions regarding symptoms and a temperature check, will occur.
  • Use the provided hand sanitizer before entering the building. Maintain at least 6 feet from staff and other users at all times.

If you need an accommodation, please speak with a staff member when you call to make the computer appointment.

Contact-free book pickup is not available during public computer sessions. Please wait until you receive a notice through email or phone informing you that your items are available for pickup. You can check your account online, or call your library. Please have your library card number available when you call.
