  What is Print Motivation?

Print motivation is being interested in and enjoying books. Children who enjoy being read to will want to learn how to read.
 
Birth to five:
  • Begin reading books early - even when your child is a newborn.
  • Make books sharing time special time - just you and your child.
  • Let your child see you reading.
  • Visit your public library often.
  • Make book-sharing time a time for closeness between you and your child.

Each individual has their own taste in books. This list includes a few favorites, but be sure to allow your child to explore the wide variety of books available at the library. You may also try searching our catalog for "toy and movable books." With over 400 to choose from, there's sure to be a pop-up, lift-the-flap, or other novel book your child will enjoy.
