2025 Competition Rules
Please pay particular attention to the items in RED. This color designation identifies recent rule changes.
- Entrants must be age 18 or under AND live or attend school in Bexar County.
- Each poet may submit up to five (5) poems, and each poem must be submitted as a separate online entry.
- Each entry must be no more than 1000 words. Poems more than 1000 words will not be considered. (Edit, edit, edit!)
- Entries are accepted online between October 1 and November 30, 2024.
- Submission of a poem constitutes permission for SAPL to include the poem in the Young Pegasus Poetry Anthology.
- Selected work will be published as submitted. Ensure that it has been carefully reviewed for typos or errors.
- Selected poets will be notified via email. (PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAIL!) Poets whose work is not selected will not be notified.
- Hard-copy entries may be submitted in person at any San Antonio Public Library branch or be mailed to:

Personal identifying information should appear ONLY ON THE BACK of hard copies (Do not include any identifying information on the front of the poem.)
On the back of the hard copy, please include:
Poet's full name and age
Grade / School
Home address and ZIP code
Email address (selected poets will be emailed)
- Entries submitted in a language other than English or Spanish must include an English translation.
- Each poem may have no more than two authors.
- Poems must not be submitted without the poet's knowledge and consent.
- Poems must be original works and may not be copied from any source. Poems found to be copied or plagiarized in whole or in part will be disqualified, along with all additional work submitted by that poet.
- If a poem relies on special formatting, the library cannot guarantee the integrity of formatting for any entry.
