Young Pegasus Poetry Competition

The San Antonio Public Library invites poets to enter the 2025 Young Pegasus Poetry Competition, a writing competition for children and teens from preschool through high school, begun by the Library in 1927.

Support creativity, inspire young writers, and make a significant difference in your students' lives by encouraging them to participate in this unique competition.

Entries will be accepted between October 1 and November 30, 2024.

Teachers, please:

• Submit students' work online. (One poem per submission)
• Certify that the students' class work is eligible for display/inclusion in the San Antonio Public Library’s 2025 Young Pegasus Poetry Anthology, if selected.
• Make students aware that their class work is being submitted and have given their consent.
• Selected work will be published as submitted. Ensure that it has been carefully reviewed for typos or errors.
• Include a valid personal email address for the student. A parent's email may be used if the student does not have their own email address. Student school email addresses should be avoided as email from outside your organization may be rejected.

A note about class projects (and those "I am " poems):
Please be aware that if a class project generates poems that have many exact phrases in common, those poems will be considered plagiarized and will be disqualified. We encourage you to submit all poems, in accordance with the competition rules, without regard to subject or content. The Library’s panel of judges will consider all poems that comply with the competition rules.
