Poetry Slam Guide

If you are signing up to perform in the poetry slam, know that you are awesome and we look forward to your performance! Please prepare two poems to read. The poetry slam will be in two rounds. Starting in the first round, each poet will be scored after their performance on a scale from 1-10 by audience members chosen at random prior to the beginning of the event. The scores will be tallied and based on the top scores, half the poets will move on to the second round. In the event of a tie for one of the top five spots, both poets will perform in the second round. At the end of the second round, the top three scorers will receive prizes. There are 12 performance slots available. You are free to come the day of the slam with prepared poems and if there is a no-show or an empty slot, you may perform.

  1. Poets will have a 3 minute time limit on their performance starting from when they begin to speak.
  2. No props may be used during the performance.
