For over 20 years the children of San Antonio have been calling in to Dial-A-Story to hear a children's story.  The children's librarians record new stories every Tuesday and Friday, one in English and one in Spanish.

Outdoor Obstacle Course:  In the story, Cyril and Pat outwit Slim by leading him all over the park.  Plan an obstacle course for your child to run through, using various outdoor objects such as tree stumps, patio tables, a hopscotch court, a sandbox, swings, a ladder to the slide, etc.  Have her run through the course in one direction, then run through it again in the opposite direction. You can time your child or she can race against siblings or friends.

Caution:  Do not use objects that have sharp corners or that can tip over easily when creating the course.

Extension Activity: Let's make a piñata! You will need white construction paper, white printer paper and any items you have available to decorate. Trace out a donkey or any other shape you would like your piñata to be and glue it to the construction paper. Leave an opening if you want to stuff it with newspaper to make it look puffy. Do this after you decorate. Have fun!
