Children's Award Books

Within the last 100 years or so, various organizations have chosen to honor outstanding books written for young people. Each award highlights the finest book within a particular category or which reflects a particular theme. Most are awarded annually.

About the Batchelder Medal

The Batchelder award is named after Mildred L. Batchelder, a former executive director of the Association for Library Service to Children.  It is awarded to a United States publisher for a children's book considered to be the most outstanding book originating in another country that has been translated to English. A complete list of past Batchelder award winners can be found on the ALA's Batchelder award website.
