The 210teenlibrary Discord Server provides a virtual space for teens (ages 13 to 18) to interact with other teens and engage in library programs and activities for teens. The server encourages teens to take ownership of this virtual space with their peers as a way to directly impact and contribute to their community while promoting positive and healthy interactions.
Through consistent library programming and additional activities and socialization spaces, the server offers the ability for teens to build relationships with their peers; share their interests and passions; feel valued, understood, and appreciated; increase their confidence in various skills and abilities; grow their capacity to develop, implement, and lead an activity; access library resources and connect with Teen Services staff; and ultimately, create and share in meaningful experiences with their peers on the server.
Beyond all other things, the true success of the 210teenlibrary Discord Server comes from the teens and teen volunteers who are part of (or were part of) the server. The 210teenlibrary Discord Server would also not be able to operate without the passion, dedication, and innovation exemplified by the Virtual Teen Services workgroup; the support of the entire Teen Services Librarians & Liaisons group; and the Library Leadership Team at the San Antonio Public Library. Working together, Teen Services at the San Antonio Public Library is able to provide the best library experience possible for teens throughout the city, in-person and virtually.
