The Comedy Western is a Western that was created with the intention of making readers and audiences laugh. In this case, it is typically achieved through a satire and lampooning of the Western genre itself. These narratives will poke fun at the classic tropes, cliches, and caricatures found throughout the genre. Here we see actors heighten the comedy of their performances as they play up their caricatures of classic Western stock characters. Writers turn the Old West on its head as they point out the cliches and inconsistencies that have come to be associated with the genre.
