The Contemporary Western is a Western that takes place in a modern setting but still retains the narratives, characters, and themes that are found in classic Westerns. Most of these narratives will take place within the American southwest to further showcase the relationship they share with their classic counterparts, but this is not always necessary. This type of Western is truly special because it shows audiences and readers the immortality of the genre and how Westerns are still relevant to the modern world. Criminals and lawmen continue to fight their eternal struggle for what they each believe to be justice. Both have adapted for a world that has changed (they traded their horses for automobiles and saloons for casinos), but their core values and character remain.
