The Space Western forgoes all physical attachments to the American West and anything of planet Earth. These Westerns take audiences and readers across the stars to the farthest reaches of the galaxy and beyond. The stock characters that we are familiar with from classic Westerns still exist in these far-off planets and galaxies. In settings such as these, lawlessness and debauchery run amok as we have seen in Classic Westerns. Even beyond the stars, we find that those who enforce the law have trouble maintaining order in such desolate, isolated territories. These narratives demonstrate the universality of the themes found in Westerns by providing readers with this alternate setting.
