The Horror Western typically contains the characters and setting found in Classic Westerns. However, they may also be Contemporary Westerns with elements of Horror. Narratives of this subgenre are wrought with terror for audiences and readers. They will use tropes and characteristics found within the Horror genre and proceed to implement them into Westerns. Cowboys battle with vampires, cannibals run amok against settlers, and ancient spirits haunt the barren plains.
