The Fantasy Western subgenre will generally have the same narratives, characters, themes, and settings found within Classic Westerns, but they use elements of fantasy fiction. These stories may include an emphasis on the Indigenous People of America and their religion by embellishing them with more imaginative qualities and overall eccentricity to their beliefs and abilities. Other times, it may simply be an addition of an outside force that is fantastical and may seem out of place in traditional Westerns. Some Fantasy Westerns can take place in Fantasy settings while retaining the themes, characters, and narratives that are more familiar within the Western the genre.
