Lowry Mays is the founder and former chairman of Clear Channel Communications, a business that was something he came into quite by accident. By the time he had reached his late 20’s, Mays had received a degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M, an MBA from Harvard and begun working for an investment banking firm here in San Antonio. When a friend decided not to go through with a business deal involving a radio station, Mays found himself the sole owner of a business in which he had zero experience. From that beginning Clear Channel was born.
Mays has been inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame and the Radio Hall of Fame and has served as Chairman for the United Way of San Antonio. He currently oversees the Mays Family Foundation, funding countless charities and organizations dear to the Mays family.
